LIMITED EDITION BOOK
25 YEARS OF KNOWLEDGE MAGAZINE
Knowledge Magazine returns with a special one-off book celebrating their 25th anniversary.
THE BRIEF
Celebrating 25 years of Knowledge Magazine in the form of a one-off 160 page book jam packed full-colour pages featuring new and classic long-form features and interviews. The brief came in two parts, firstly to create a unique logo lock-up that made use of the original magazine logo but brought in extra elements to celebrate 25 years of existence. The second part to the brief was to translate what was originally a glossy monthly magazine that was well known for being the bible of all things drum & bass into a premium feeling hard back ‘coffee table’ style book which would quickly become a collectors item.
THE SOLUTION
It was important that the new lock-up was seen as an extension of the original logo whilst in keeping the premium feel of the book. The anniversary aspect of the project assisted in steering the design towards a badge or seal style lock-up. Adding the wreath, anniversary information and making use of the dots found within the original logo all achieved the results the client was looking for. Despite the intricate parts to the design it performed perfectly across multiple platforms, everything from the foil stamp treatment on the book cover to the circular social media profile images demonstrated that it could be both premium and functional.
It was easily and quickly agreed between everyone involved in the project that the format of the book should be a 10 inch square ‘record cover’ shape to act as a nod towards the nature of the content. Clean and airy layouts made up out of a balance of bold typography, white space and slick photography may be a leap away from the original layouts found inside the magazine but aligned well with the premium demands of the brief.
